Hi Arielle! Can you tell us a little more about yourself and your jewelry shop?
"Since a young age, I have been into everything media and art! From setting up my "office" at age five filled with coloring books, markers and paper, to now, having a remodeled garage for my beautiful orange and lime green workspace, I have throughout the years invested my heart in darkroom photography, oil painting on found wood, drawing, writing poetry, playing the viola, and, of course, making one of a kind gemstone jewelry!
My first sales experience was at aged seven when I set up a little table outside of a family friend's antique store. Very simple seed bead necklaces graced that table, and I think I sold only one! Flash forward to 2009, and I started collecting more gemstone beads than I knew what to do with! I started making jewelry for friends and family and soon had so many pieces that I was decorating my walls with them! Etsy was a very natural next step and I just celebrated three years there in September!
Making jewelry is a passion! Every piece is carefully thought out, designed, and created and I try to instill the positivity and good energy I feel into every piece. My goal is that my jewelry makes the wearer feel beautiful and special knowing that no one else in the world is wearing her piece! I never repeat a design, so each necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings is truly one of a kind."
I love that each piece has it's own personality. Where do you find all that inspiration?
"Each piece of jewelry I create is a little work of art! And art can be inspired by so many things. I always listen to good music while making jewelry, which I find to be very inspirational. Visuals from fog on the highway to a sunrise glow to an outfit in a fashion magazine inspire me to combine new color combinations and designs. Also, I have always been intrigued by the healing power of gemstones, and I often combine stones that play well off of one another and come together for a positive vibration.
My goal with Arielle's Custom Jewelry is to make it my full-time job! This is a huge inspiration to me! It keeps me going when sales are down or on gloomy days, and allows me to be energized to create new pieces and always keep tweaking my Etsy shop.
One of my biggest joys and inspirations is a happy customer! Nothing makes me happier than knowing that something I created brought another human being a bit of beauty and smiles."
It sounds like there is a lot of positives within your business. What about the negatives... have there been any obstacles you've had to overcome over the last three years?
"Not so much an obstacle, but something I must constantly work on and never stop is getting more folks to find out about Arielle's Custom Jewelry. I am constantly trying to promote myself through social media, Etsy teams, craft fairs, people in everyday life, and blogs. It is a never ending job!"It's a big world... the internet! What is the best way you've found to be seen?
"Communication! Networking and finding out about new ways and venues to advertise is so important."
Which is also great advice for people trying to be seen. Any advice you'd like to give to those debating turing their love of art into a business?
"Just start! Once you take that first step, all the other steps fall into place naturally. As long as you keep your dream alive, try not to doubt yourself, and work hard, everything is possible! I am also a big fan of To-Do Lists. :)"
