Beauty Confessions... Neapolitan Crackle Nails

The other night my Momma and I went in to get pedicures.  I never seem to be able to get my toes as lovely as these girls do so it is such a treat!  While there I noticed that there were a few different hues of "crackle" polish in one of the cabinets.  Out of curiosity I ask Tommy (the owner of the salon) if a lot of people request this look?  His response stills cracks me up!  "No, no one like it 'cause it ugly... you take it with you" (  <----- insert an Asian accent for the full effect of hilariousness here)!  So I did!  I have been wanting to see what it was like and what type of cool and unusual concepts I could create with it.  I came up with this cute idea of painting my nails half brown and half pink then coating them with the white crackle polish to give the appearance of melted neapolitan ice cream.

NYC Long Wearing Nail Enamel in Polyester Pink Creme
ELF Nail Polish in Smokey Brown
LaRosa Crackle Shatter in Snow White

I cannot say that the concept was well reflected by my attempts but the outcome was a fun one none the less!  I found that you really have to move fast with the stuff as the shatter process begins almost immediately upon application.  I cannot say I am quite sold on the crackle concept yet but maybe after some more experimentation I may find that it will change my mind.

Have you tried the crackle or shatter polishes?  What did you think?

  1. I tried the black one with a bright coral underneath and it looked fab. It's a bit of experimentation as you say though!

Coral & black sounds lovely! xo

  3. I still have a crackle polish somewhere, haven't used it yet! It used to be really trendy a while ago though, I still think it looks pretty cool!

  4. oh yours looks awesome, obviously :)

Thanks Angie! I was surprised at how fast the process begins. I will have to keep that in mind next time around. xo

  6. My sister had it when I went to visit her, so I used some. I didn't really like it on my fingers, but I never really like nail polish on my fingers. Anyways, it just seemed too...busy to have on all fingers. So on my toes, I used it as an accent. My biggest toe was painted a hot pink with black crackle and the others were a gray. I really enjoyed it while I had it. :]

  7. Hahaha that Tommy line was hilarious!
Your nails look good, girl. A+ for ice cream nails! Nom nom.

I actually didn't realize how quick the crackle stuff dries either and it took me a few times to get mine to look...not shitty. hehe Even so, I'm not a fan of doing it all the time. Buuuut that was also before all these awesome nail art tutorials started coming out, so maybe I'll find something cool to do with black crackle. :)

♥ Thanks for commenting! I truly appreciate each comment I receive and nothing brightens my day more than reading your thoughts!
