American Honey...

The storm has passed and after a week of rain I felt more than ecstatic to head outdoors.  The energy outside our window panes had us more than curious and intrigued!  My little adventure buddy, Armani, and I couldn't resist an early morning adventure to see what all the buzz was about!

We didn't have to go far to find all the excitement...

The Thousand Acre Woods was back in full spring swing!

After seeing all the blooming activity I knew where we needed to go and after a few words of encouragement Armani agreed and we headed in a different direction.

This is what we were after...

The sweet blossoms of the manzanita tree.  Once when I was a little girl I told my mom I was running away from home to live in the woods.  My mom asked me, in a very serious tone, "But how will you survive in the woods?"  "I will live in the trees and drink from the manzanita flowers" I replied.  Needless to say, they were not sufficient for survival but even until this day I can resist a chance to sample their sweet honey like nectar.

Although, squeezing the bloom does not produce much liquid it's enough to leave a sweet taste lingering on your tongue for some time to come.  I was not the only one feasting either.  Once the blossoms have been robbed of their nectar they simply fall to the forest floor leaving a stunning blush blanket in their wake.

We decided to be courteous to the locals, leaving plenty of blooms to go around, and headed back home.  Everything is so beautiful and green at this time of year.

Even the miner's lettuce is beckoning visitors with it's bloom and dew pools...

We were more than willing to oblige!  I scampered indoors to retrieve a book I've long been hoping to re-read...

A peaceful morning spent outdoors was a prescription I was more than happy to fill...

I think 'Mani would more than agree if he weren't fast a sleep from our exciting day!  Time to get ready to head out to see our friends at the Apple Orchard.  They say we are in for a real treat!

  2. ... and which book would that be, love? Hmmm? ;)

As for the bees, they're out en masse here in the city, too. While at my in-laws' house last night, we found that the honeybees had taken up residence in the eaves of their house. In one day, they managed to build a big, busy (hee!) home the size of a small toddler. That was sure a surprise discovery!
