Sweet Peek of the Week - TDESIGN

There is something so beautiful about simplicity and simple elegance and the shop owner we're meeting this week has really hit the nail on the head.  Her designs are handmade and truly celebrate an organic feel.

Let's ask Tania of TDESIGN a few questions...

Hi Tania, could you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your shop, TDESIGN?

"Ever since I was little I have always loved creating, whether that be drawing, painting, attempting to sew a pair of shorts (which went terribly wrong) or writing songs in the garden. I love making new things and always have. Creating has forever been part of my life and essentially led me to start TDESIGN in late December last year. TDESIGN is my new Australian brand which prides itself on designing and making unique beautiful handmade products. Having grown up between Milan and Sydney and travelling to as many places in-between, TDESIGN is definitely influenced by my diverse upbringing and passion for the unique. My collections are a mix and combination of graphic, ceramic and jewellery design. All of my pieces are handmade with love in my small Sydney studio."
You've obviously found a lot of inspiration throughout your life!  What else has and continues to inspire you?

"I have so many different inspirations that it’s hard to pinpoint one thing. Both of my parents run their own businesses which means that I’ve grown up in a house where everyone works hard and nothing really seems impossible! My mum is a fashion designer and my father collects pieces from around the world so we are defiantly an eclectic family! I’ve grown up around African masks, Chinese statues, mannequins and lots and lots of swatches of fabric so I suppose I was never really going to end up at a desk job. Creating things has always felt normal to me. I also adore organic shapes and forms and draw a lot of inspiration from the sea, stones, pebbles – all kinds of soft round forms. I celebrate the beautiful imperfections that come with making things by hand, it makes things unique and individual."
I love that you have a family full of people who do not believe in the word impossible!  Such a wonderful outlook.  Have there been any obstacles you've had to overcome in the creation of TDESIGN?

"I think that with everything that you attempt to do for the first time you will encounter obstacles and in most cases more than once! Most obstacles that I have encountered have made me face and solve completely new problems. So far overcoming these has taught me a lot about setting up a brand. It has definitely been a challenge to make TDESIGN into something real and to get it to where it is today. There is still a lot to do and a lot more growing to be done but I am so thrilled to have come this far in just three months."
You definitely have an amazing attitude that is sure to get you far!  Any words of advice for others?

"The most important lesson I have learnt is to not rush into everything. It’s sometimes better to take a bit more time and make sure you get it right. So learning to avoid problems and obstacles has also been important. Looking for advice from other creative’s is also really helpful, there are so many people who have been where I am now and I find that they are the best people to get advice from."
"And if it ever feels all too confusing or I’m feeling a little lost, it’s great to know that I have such a supportive boyfriend and best friend to make help me find another solution. At the end of the day I always tell myself that you have to start somewhere!"
Wonderful!  Thank you so much Tania for stopping by and sharing your journey with us!
