Time to get to know Samantha of EMarie Creations!
Samantha, can you tell us a little more about yourself and EMarie Creations?
"I am a nineteen year old young lady who enjoys crafting, reading, baking and spending time with friends. I have enjoyed crafting ever since I was a little girl, and began an Etsy shop in 2009 with my older sister. My sister no longer sells on Etsy, but I have kept up the business and am loving it!
Polymer clay is so much fun to work with, and I enjoy coming up with new, colorful designs to make and sell.
I am a born-again Christian who feels so blessed with my talent for crafts. So many people can't believe I can make such intricate things, and sometimes I can't believe it myself! I can only point my talent to God, because He is the one who gave me the interest and the talent to do what I do."
I adore the details that go into your pieces! What inspires you to create these little cuties?
"I can't say that one exact thing inspires me. Usually it is a variety of things, like the current trends, which change constantly! I try to include items that I enjoy making and new trending items to keep things fresh and fun in my shop."
Sounds like a good plan! Have there been any obstacles you've had to face?
"I am probably not as "serious" about my business as I could be, mostly because I have other interests and don't feel like spending my life in front of the computer. =) I know that I could (and probably should) be doing more to advertise and get my shop "out there", but I am happy with the progress that I have made so far and feel that spending more time on it right now would not help me to enjoy life as much. In the future I hope to grow my business more, but for right now I feel that I am at a good spot in my business, even if I am not as serious or "into" it as other shop owners."
How are you currently finding that balance?
"Because I do want to make small changes to grow my business while still not spending all of my waking moments in it, I try to seek out promotional opportunities on blogs, sponsor occasional giveaways and spend time in the many teams I am a part of. All of these are small steps that help to get my shop out there without spending a lot of time or money."
This is great advice too! Any other advice you can leave us in regards to creating a business?
"If you love what you do, and find that you have the time, money and interest to invest, I would highly recommend starting your own business. Having a home business has taught me how to handle my money wisely, how to interact with customers and how to be more organized. Having a business takes a lot of time, but can be very rewarding if you are willing to put some time into it."
