One look at this little lovely and I was hooked! Let's ask Rose our Fast Five!
Hi Rose, can you tell us a little more about Pumpkin and Butterfly?
Pumpkin and Butterfly offers unique art prints inspired by kids. My dream really started just over a year ago. Like most families we were feeling the effects of the economy. I wanted to help and contribute, but being home with my son and daughter was important to me. I am an Interior Designer and I love to customize or make special painting for clients. One day I came across Etsy and that is when Pumpkin and Butterfly came about – if you haven’t figured it out Pumpkin is my nickname for my son and Butterfly is my daughter.
How sweet is that? I love the name even more now! What else, other than the economy crunch, inspired you and continues to inspire you?
My main inspiration for my prints is truly my kids. The funny things they say or do or their little dreams that make me smile are part of every print. I truly love the simple things in life and I feel like that is reflected through my prints and style.
It's the little things that matter most in life! Have you had to overcome any obstacles in the creation and management of your own business?
Of course in the beginning everything was a learning process, but I am amazed daily at how the shop has grown. I really feel so grateful and appreciative of what I have been able to do while still being home. The hardest thing with an online business is that it is ALWAYS on. Trying to keep a balance between making a successful shop and having the kids at home is my biggest obstacle along with taking over every inch of the house with supplies and materials.
Haha I can imagine! How are you finding your balance?
We set aside movie nights when no computers are allowed. Bedtime and reading to the kids is always my way of ending the day on a good note and finding some special time with them. As for taking over the house, we are currently building an art studio in our basement with a play area attached so that I can be more organized and the kids can be with me. I can’t wait until it is finished.
That sounds so wonderful and excitingly perfect! Rose, would you leave us with a few words of advice?
I think the most important thing to succeed at your dreams is good old fashion hard work. Nothing comes easy and if it is a dream then it is worth the effort.
I think I realize that more and more everyday! Thank you so much Rose for sharing your sweet story and answers with us! Cheers to another successful year in 2012!
